| Apiti Chapel | ||||||||||
Situated on a hill overlooking the holiday park, this picturesque wooden chapel is steeped in history. Step through the little steepled porchway, and you’ll be transported back in time to New Zealand ’s early pioneering days. Built in 1899 and originally sited near Fielding, it has been a quiet retreat for many generations of worshippers. The name “Apiti” means Gorge, named after the river landscape where the church originally stood. In 1988 the chapel was re-sited to El Rancho and carefully restored. The original stained glass window has been removed and remains in Fielding and a new window was commissioned, reflecting the unique Kapiti Coast seascape. Guests and staff find it a pleasant and peaceful place to pray, reflect or meditate; and school groups study the chapel as part of the Social Studies or Arts curriculum. For more information on the chapel, click here to email Amy-Leigh. Outdoor Chapel Nestled amongst the pine trees on a grassy slope at the back of the camp is our peaceful outdoor chapel, ideal for special services or personal quietness and reflection. |
